Question by Therapist: Do you have a recipe for chili with no tomatoes?
I don’t have any tomatoes, canned or fresh and I promised my husband chili tonight and I can’t go out – the kids are too sick to go out in the cold. I have kidney beans that have soaked all night, ground beef, and the proper spices. But that is it! Can I pull it off?
No tomatoes, means no tomatoes. I got nothing. I have ketchup but eww, not the flavor I am going for.

Do you have any canned tomato soup, v-8 juice or anything tomaatoey like that? Tomato sauce? Thats the only solution I can think of!!

    bangla, but my boyfriend is bangladeshi…i would love to make something
    speacial for him…i too also enjoy trying new things and i have been
    looking for some good bangladeshi recepies.

  12. do you have ketchup?
    make something like sloppy joes.. and just serve it on toasted bread or buns.. or just eat it from the plate..(my kids have)
    or with mashed potatoes..
    saute your ground meat with a chopped onion, chopped garlic (2 cloves), chopped green pepper.. till meat is browned and onion clear.
    then add a tablespoon worchestershire sauce, 1 cup of ketchup dash of vinegar, 1 tsp prepared mustard, 2 tablespoons brown sugar.. juice from 1 lemon.. a dash or two of red pepper sauce (like tobasco).. salt and pepper to taste.. let this simmer for 15 min.. tada!.. its done… * you can toss in the drained beans just to make it go further…

  13. Do you have any tomato sauce or even paste? If you did you could get away with a traditional chili. But if not try this recipe for white chili and replace the chicken with ground beef and the great Northern beans with kidney beans; I can’t imagine it wouldn’t work:

    INGREDIENTS
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    2 onions, chopped
    4 cloves garlic, minced
    4 cooked, boneless chicken breast half, chopped
    3 (14.5 ounce) cans chicken broth
    2 (4 ounce) cans canned green chile peppers, chopped
    2 teaspoons ground cumin
    2 teaspoons dried oregano
    1 1/2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
    5 (14.5 ounce) cans great Northern beans, undrained
    1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

    DIRECTIONS
    Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic and saute for 10 minutes, or until onions are tender. Add the chicken, chicken broth, green chile peppers, cumin, oregano and cayenne pepper and bring to a boil.
    Reduce heat to low and add the beans. Simmer for 20 to 30 minutes, or until heated thoroughly. Pour into individual bowls and top with the cheese.

  14. chili does not have to have tomatoes,personally i don’t like the chunks in it anyway,do u have a tomato paste….or ketchup,,,use that for the flavor.

  15. Tex-Mex Chili

    3 tablespoons vegetable oil

    21/2 pounds cubed beef chuck

    2 cups chopped onions

    3 large cloves garlic, minced

    2 tablespoons sweet paprika (Hungarian is best)

    1 tablespoon ground cumin

    2 teaspoons kosher salt, or to taste

    1 cup water

    2 teaspoons crushed hot red pepper, or to taste

    1 tablespoon masa harina (Mexican corn flour available in some supermarkets or Hispanic markets)

    1/4 cup water

    Cook beef in the hot oil in a heavy pan, turning and browning thoroughly on all sides. Stir in onion and garlic and cook, stirring, over medium heat for about 10 minutes.

    Add paprika and cumin and cook, stirring constantly, for 2 more minutes. Add the salt, cup of water and crushed hot red pepper. Bring to a boil, cover, and cook over very low heat for 3 hours or until meat shreds easily with a fork. (Or place in a 300-degree oven.)

    Stir together the masa harina and remaining water. Stir into the chili and cook 10 minutes longer. Taste and adjust the seasonings. Makes 6 to 8 servings

    No-Tomato Chili Con Carne Y Frijoles

    Preparation 15 minutes
    Cooking 60 minutes
    Ready In 8 hours

    1 1/2 pounds ground beef, lean
    3 cloves garlic minced
    1 medium onion diced
    1 medium sweet bell pepper diced
    1 each jalapeno pepper optional
    3 tablespoons flour, all-purpose
    1 tablespoon oregano
    1 tablespoon paprika
    1 tablespoon cumin
    3 tablespoons chili powder more as needed
    1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    1 x cayenne pepper to taste
    1 x salt to taste
    4 cups beef broth or stock
    2 cans pinto beans or red beans, drained
    8 each soda crackers crushed

    Directions
    Brown meat in dutch oven or heavy pot.

    Drain excess grease and add garlic, onion and pepper, sautéing until slightly softened.

    Add flour, stirring and scraping pan until very lightly browned; add all seasonings and mix thoroughly.

    Add 4 cups broth or stock, or 4 cups water and 4 boullion cubes.

    Bring to a boil and simmer about 45 minutes.

    Add beans and bring back to a simmer, cooking long enough to heat beans through, about 10 minutes.

    Add sufficient cracker crumbs for desired consistency, being careful not to over thicken.

    Chili is better if allowed to sit for several hours to overnight for flavors to blend, reheating if necessary.

    Adjust all seasonings to taste.

    Freezes very well.

    Cheeseburger Paradise

    * 6 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
    * 1 small carrot, grated
    * 1 small onion, chopped
    * 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
    * 2 tablespoons chopped seeded jalapeno pepper
    * 3 cups water
    * 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules
    * 2 garlic cloves, minced
    * 1/8 teaspoon pepper
    * 2 pounds ground beef
    * 1/2 pound sliced fresh mushrooms
    * 2 tablespoons butter
    * 5 cups milk, divided
    * 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    * 1 package (16 ounces) process cheese (Velveeta), cubed
    * Crumbled cooked bacon

    Directions:
    In a soup kettle, combine the first nine ingredients; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
    Meanwhile, in a large skillet, cook beef and mushrooms in butter over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Add to soup. Stir in 4 cups milk; heat through.
    In a small bowl, combine flour and remaining milk until smooth; gradually stir into soup. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Reduce heat; stir in cheese until melted. Garnish with bacon. Yield: 14 servings (about 3-1/2 quarts).
