Question by wisdomisbeauty: Are my tomatoes safe?
I started growing a tomatoes plant in a pot on my patio. little brown mushrooms just started to grow inside the pot. Are they going to cantaminate my tomotoes? What should I do?

No they should not contaminate your tomatoes. However your tomatoes probably will not do very good in soil that is so wet that mushrooms will grow. Stop with the watering so much. Let the soil dry out on top between watering’s.

  2. Probably means that the compost you used contains recycled mushroom compost (from a commercial grower)…. won’t hurt the tomato plant but I’d probably give the mushrooms a miss.

    Still a bit chilly for outdoor tomatoes if you’ve in the UK

  4. Your tomatoes will be fine to eat. The appearance of mushrooms means that (1) your have decomposing organic material in the soil which is a good thing! And (2) you’re probably keeping the soil a bit too wet. Don’t water until the top 2″ of the soil is dry. Over watering tomatoes can set the stage for a host of diseases and problems.
