  4. According to the recipe from Bendtec, you may add whole kernel corn, cooked chicken chunks, and also tortilla chips and pulse until they are part of the blend, but still very chunky. I did not add any chunky ingredients, but I may have alluded to that in the recipe.

  8. I noticed that there were two versions of the Blendtec Tortilla Soup recipe. I got mine from the insert in my blender jar and also used some of the instructions and nutritional information from the Blendtec website. I think pulsing in corn chips at the end would be great!

  9. Yes, it can do a lot of things that you might use several appliances for.

  10. Betty, I noticed that there is a “whole juice” button. Is this machine able to juice as well??

  11. I made this recipe and if your blender isn’t as powerful as this on you will not get the right consistency and I personally like a smooth soup with a few things pulsed in, but my soup had the consistency of wet sand. This is just a warning to others that may not have a high-tech blender. Other than that great recipe.

  12. Have to try! Love my Blendtec!

  14. Yes, it has the perfect flavor to combine with tortilla chips.

  15. You know, I wonder if you can use it as a tortilla chip dip. Does it have a flavor that would go good like that?

  16. Thanks for your lovely comment, Amy. Rick has been making milkshakes and soups almost everyday with our new blender. I think we will really love it!

  19. Happy Memorial Day Weekend dearest Betty! Oh, you are going to LOVE your new, powerful blender! I have a VitaMix (very similar to the Blendtec) and I use it every single day. It is wonderful!! Loved your tortilla soup. I’m sure it’s absolutely delicious! It’s so easy to throw in the ingredients and then blend away… in no time flat, you have a hot, flavorful meal made in a blender! Cleanup is so easy. You look beautiful as always Betty! Love you all…

  22. You may leave out the onion.

  23. Rick here–I made another batch of this a few days ago and used chicken broth instead of water. I thought it was even richer and better for the substitution.

  24. Man i should buy this blender for my mom. She always breaks hers… every 3 months she gets a new one

  25. Miss Betty, can you use chicken stock instead of water? Or can anyone else help me with this question?

Yemenite Beef and Chicken Soup Recipe
This is the best chicken soup I’ve ever made. It’s very different and flavorful! The recipe comes from a Jewish cookbook. It’s the typical Yemenite dish for Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year).
    by Devora
    10-12 servings
    2 days 2 days prep
    8 cups water
1/2 lb beef shoulder or beef ribs
    2 marrow, bones
    8 garlic cloves, peeled
    2 large onions, quartered
    1 large tomato
    1/4 cup fresh parsley
    1/4 cup dill
    8 chicken pieces
    2 carrots
    4 celery ribs
    1 tablespoon curry
    1/2 teaspoon cumin
    1 zucchini
3 potatoes, cut in 1-inch pieces
    1 tablespoon hawaij (Yemenite spice)
    salt and pepper
    1 lemon, juice of
    1 cup fresh cilantro

In a large pot, place water, beef and marrow bones and bring to boil.
Lower heat and add garlic, onions, parsley and dill.
Cut a cross in the tomato (do not cut all the way through) and add to pot.
Cover pot and simmer 20 minutes.
Add the chicken and bring to boil.
Add carrots (peeled but whole), celery, curry and cumin.
Lower heat and simmer 20 minutes until cooked.
    Refrigerate overnight.
In the morning, skim the layer of fat off the top. Fish out the chicken, remove the skin and bones, cut chicken into pieces and return chicken pieces to pot.
Add zucchini, potatoes, hawaij and salt and pepper to taste. Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer covered 10 minutes.
Add lemon juice. Remove marrow. Garnish with cilantro.
Good served with z’chug (Yemenite chili pepper paste) and hilbe (Yemenite fenugreek paste) to taste.

  27. If you can, get “hawayij” its the Yemenite spice- that is the best way to go! It can be used on many things, chicken, meatballs, sauces…If not, follow the recipe the above poster mentioned.

    Boil big pot of water
Add chicken pieces (we add chicken pieces that we eat, legs, thighs..)
Take a spoon and remove the ichy stuff that foams up.
Add the veggies that u want, we like potatoes, carrots, onions, zuchinni..
Once boiling add 1 generous spoonful of hawaidj and 1 tablespoon of salt.
    And that’s it!!

    Beteavon!

You can also make it with beef (neck or shoulder). However we add cilantro and parsley. my dw prefers it as a garni tied, I like it chopped up. Add potatoe (whole or half) at the end of cooking so they don’t turn to mush.

If you can’t get the hawayi in your local store, I have seen it online.

But you can make your own:

    2 Tblsp black pepper
    2 Tblsp ground cumin
    1/2 teasp ground corriander
1 teasp tumeric (I like more however)
4 cloves ground (I sometimes add a couple whole cloves to the soup)
    4 shelled cardamon seed pods
    2 or 3 bay leaves

    grind everything together

Eating marak temani with hilbeh & zhug is d’rigueur.

  28. I have not ever hear about that before i guess you learn a lot everyday. Check out food network or all recipes.com, what is that is is Jewish.
