Question by blackgiraffe656: My tomato plants have red stems and some of the tips of the leaves are turning brown and curling up crispy?
my tomatoes plants are in a greenhouse where the temperature varied from 16C at night to 32C during a sunny day now trying to keep it over 20C all the time. The brown happened right after I brought them outside in the greenhouse from inside near the window, they were also under watered in my opinion at that time a few days ago. The redness also happened not long after that a few days ago and they are not growing very fast…on the internet I’ve seen they might be cold, they might need more fertilizer or they might have to much fertilizer for now I will try and keep them warmer?
It can maybe even be the sun if their we’re not very use to it?

Well, you all ready answered your own question. Pretty much ALL of the above could have caused that. Live and learn. One thing that I have learned is to write down all the things that you do, so you will remember for next year what to do, and what NOT to do

  1. The curled leaves are caused by lack of consistent watering.
Tomatoes like temperatures from 75F to 80F- can go higher.
They like heat, sun and air flow. A fan can give them air flow.
When the temperature is 60F or less at a regular basis, the plants can not absorb enough potassium properly and develop red or purple stems and leaf undersides. The soil needs to be warm to help the stems to return to normal..
    The sun ripens tomatoes.
