Question by Don’t call me dude: Do sweet potatoes also contain the chemical in potatoes that triggers allergic reactions in some people?
A buddy of mine who is MASSIVELY allergic to potatoes is coming over for dinner.

Can I serve sweet potatoes without killing the poor guy? He’s never had them, and when I asked him, he didn’t know if they also contain whatever it is that triggers his allergy.

Sweet potatoes are part of a different family. However, you may need to watch out for tomatoes. Tomatoes are actually related to potatoes.
