Small fruits: Currants, gooseberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries.

They all need actual winter weather to thrive.

  1. I try new things every year. I love growing garlic. This year I’ve planted arugula and kohlrabii not sure I’ve ever eaten either one but i’ll try it. Pumpkins andgourdss are fun too. I once grew loofahs(by mistake). I also plant flowers in my veggie garden. Herbs are another favorite in my garden. Raspberries, blueberry’s and strawberry’s are worth trying. Seek out unusual stuff!

    ……….Tip on blueberries………………
Make sure to have at least 3 plants 2 of 1 kind and 1 of another for pollination.
Invest in a soil test meter mine is a Burpee 2 in 1 analyzer…it tell the ph the moisture and the fertilizer. Blueberries need to have the PH at 4.0 to 4.5 that is very acidic.
You can use garden lime to make it acidic and coffee grounds…make sure to use the lime…. for fertilizer I use use a organic for acid loving plants. If the PH is too high use garden sulphur to bring it it to the right level.
Remove all blossoms the first year and let the plant become well established. The second year and the year after that will keep getting better.. Also do the same thing on everbearing strawberries pull off the first set of blooms then when the second set come on let them produce. They don’t need the same PH.
optimum soil pH for strawberry production is 6.0- 6.5
