Question by Polly!: Are tomatoes a vegetable or fruit?
People always say that they are fruit because they have seeds… but then so do courgettes and cucumbers…

I think of them as vegetables because the idea of having tomatoes in a fruit salad just makes me feel sick! And biting into a tomato like you do an apple… vom!

  3. Genetically they are a fruit. but that doesn’t mean they belong in a fruit salad or anything. uses won’t change for them but they are fruit

  4. Botanically, a tomato is a fruit. So is a cucumber.

    When we talk about them in cooking and diet, we call them vegetables. Their scientific classification is really irrelevant to us. We care more about how sweet they are and what role they play in our meals.
