Question by god1oak: What do you think of this salad?
I would like to know what you think of this salad. Here are the ingredients:

Pecans, maybe glazed.
Orange Poppyseed dressing (store bought)
Warm goat cheese
dried blueberries
dried cranberries
Butter lettuce (its not as bitter as other varieties)
Orange and Yellow gourmet tomatoes, cherry tomato size.
Chickpeas

Are there any ingredients I should add or delete due to flavor concerns?

  1. I wonder if this will work well over burgers and/or pork. It sounds
delirious and so easy! Thanks for all you’re doing Chef John! (I’ve been to
your site and posted about the pomegranate chicken & saffron rice. Yummy!!)

  2. thanks chef john! im a big fan! any ideas for amuse bouches?? i would love
some videos or recipes..thanks! greeting from brooklyn.

  3. I’ve seen the website and all the videos, and I really appreciate them.

  4. Thanks! Be sure to also check out the website! Enjoy!

  5. Ask your friends to “Subscribe” to Foodwishes when they view from YouTude.
Beside the # of views, I was told that YouTube pays close attention to the
number of subscriptions and this helps increase the ranking a site is
given. Chef John is the best and he deserves the recognition!

  6. its great on anything! so yes, and yes

  7. I really like your videos! Thanks for putting them up!

  8. Agreed. And I tell lots of people about them. It blows my mind that they
only have a few hundred views! Is this because views that come from
foodwishes aren’t counted? I’m confused as to how the tally works…

  9. i made this but I used the cheap red wine vinegar fight the power

  10. I asked YouTube this question and their reply was they do not acknowledge
views of YouTube content generated from outside their domain. At Foodwishes
only the number of comments are tracked. It’s too bad that his views are
not combined, but the advantage of going directly to Foodwishes is that you
get the full scoop and the all important list of ingredients. I usually
rate his videos here, then watch the whole thing from the actual site so I
can learn more and read his funny commentary.

  11. I love chic peas in my salads.

  12. I think it sounds disgusting. Sorry. Take out the fruit, not the tomatoes though.

  13. Sounds interesting. I would try it.

  14. ……

What is that mysterious ticking noise?

    ….

    ……

    ……
    Dumbledore!!!

Oh…i think your salad is just as nutricious as my lunch. I would add some meat though…like chicken slice for texture and taste.

  15. Every thing sounds good except the dried blueberries. But that’s only because i don’t like blue berries.
But if you do like blue berries do you think it would taste good with the orange Poppyseed dressing???

  16. man i love you send me nowwwwwwwwwww

  17. I’d avoid the chickpeas, too – and I’d lay off the glazed pecans. Since the blueberries and cranberries are sprayed with oil and sugar, that’s enough to sweeten the salad. I’d probably get rid of the heirloom tomatoes, too – they’re too acidy with the dried fruit.

Have you considered a cheese that traditionally pairs with dry fruit, like brie?

Edit: Keep the pecans, but just toast them, I mean.

  18. It really sounds delicious! (I would skip the dried blueberries due to personal preference and cost.) The orange poppy seed dressing would be perfect with the cranberries. My sister makes a cranberry orange salad for T-day and the combo is delish.
Baby spinach is not bitter and is very good for you too.
I would do small pieces of pecans (again personal preference, a little nut goes a long way.)

Is this for Thanksgiving? Can I come over? :)

  19. Just eliminate bluberries,tomatoes,and chickpeas.

  20. other than the goat cheese it sounds wonderful….I’ll take a large bowl please!

  21. Sounds yummy! Here are some alternative choices I’ve also used:

    1. Baby spinach
    2. Glazed walnuts instead of pecans
    3. Mandarin oranges
    4. Bacon
    5. Feta cheese
    6. Pinto beans instead of chickpeas
    7. French dressing instead of orange poppyseed

I’d lose the chickpeas simply because they don’t go with your fruit theme, but…..give us an update on how this turns out!

  22. I do think the chickpeas might be too heavy for such a delicate combination otherwise. You could add some baby spinach if you need more greens.
