Growing heirloom tomatoes in high tunnel

Growing heirloom tomatoes in a high tunnel to avoid late blight. We still spray some but nothing like we used to have to when we grew outdoors.

Question by Lisa M: What vegetable seeds to sow in august/september?
Please can someone give me a list of vegetable seeds to sow in august september?
I’m currently growing:
Tomatoes
Pickling onions
Normal onions
Carrots
Runner beans
Cabbage
Lettuce

I have a garden house, although quite small! 2 raised vegetable beds (to avoid slugs as we put copper. Strips around the edges and also salt which seems to work) and we also plant into the ground.

Let me know any seeds to sow!

  1. Just planted 4 Celebrety, 4 Rutgers ,4 Big Boy & 4 Better Boy (16 total) &
getting more. Neighbors love getting free tomatoes as early as June in
    Alabama. Great Video.

  2. precious!! And the tomatoes look great too!

  3. Maybe because that they won’t smoosh each other. :)

  4. Wow!,very nice…just curios tho,why did you tell her to leave the tomatoes
upside down?,and what state is that in?

  5. In the Pacific Northwest, we can get a second crop of peas in the fall as well.

One note, I would not put down salt for slugs. The salt is not good for your soil.

  6. Add broccoli, cauliflower, turnip greens, rutabaga, garlic, chard, kohlrabi, radishes, spinach and kale.

Look on the seed packet at your region and the days to maturity, add about 30 days, subtract from your first frost date and that will be a pretty good time to plant.

Insects are bad until the weather cools off a bit so keep a close eye out for them in a fall garden.
