Question by Muirgirl94: What month is the best month to plant tomato plants in California?
I’m doing research for my garden that I am going to plant next year. I am planning on planting 3 tomato plants starting from the seeds. But in all of my research, I have not found anything that says what month is the best month to grow tomato plants here in California.

  1. I really appreciate your channel and video.

  2. I would assume any time of year, since you have really nice weather there

  3. NOW

  4. I start my seeds indoors in March. This gives them a jump start so that if we get any of those late cold spring rains the seedlings don’t get blasted. As soon as the night get into the lower 50’s you can start hardening them off to outside conditions. I like to have mine in the beds or containers by mid May or so.

  5. As early as possible. Start the seeds indoors around New Years Day. Set the plants out after the danger of frost has passed.

If you are in a hot area and start late the fruit might not set due to high temperatures, but if too early night temps might also be too low. It depends on where in California you are, mountains, high or low desert, north, south, or mid coast. Plants in the soil in March is sort of average.
