Question by ahmelody71: What if I spilled tomato juice on my MacBook?
Since this unfortunate event occured, my MacBook refuses to start up. The fan started going nuts right after it happened, and I cleaned it reeeeaaaally well but it still smells like tomato juice inside.. I think some might have gotten in through the firewire outlet :/ Do you think that would be why it doesn’t start anymore? What do you think the damage is gonna be like? How about how much it will cost to clean it out, considering there’s nothing to replace?

Thanks!

  1. I had coffee spills on my macbook the other day…

After cleaning it up, it seems that some keys on the keyboard were not working.. So in the end, i opened it up, did a thorough cleaning on the internals then sent it back to apple…(still under apple care)

In the end, they “fixed” the keyboard problems for me.. 😉

  2. If the computer doesn’t start up at all, there is most likely a component that needs to be replaced.

Tomato Juice is conductive liquid, therefor it could have shorted out the motherboard if it came into contact with it. If this has happened it’ll cost you a good deal to repair because you’ll need to purchase and install a brand new motherboard. Any warranty you had with Apple is now void if you opened the computer up to clean it.

Any component the juice came into contact with could have been damaged (especially the CPU and the RAM). The hard drive may be okay. You may be looking at quite an expensive repair.

Take it somewhere to have it diagnosed. We don’t know what the liquid came into contact with, therefore we don’t know what it damaged. If it came in contact with the motherboard there is a good chance it shorted out.

  3. its finished. get a new one 😀
