  1. Your kidding right? All tomato’s are green until they ripen. If you are wanting green tomatoes to fry southern style then pick them early. Leave them long enough and they will ripen to a red, pink or yellow color depending on the variety. Maybe I am off – way off but I have never heard of a Green Tomato Plant – they are all green until they ripen.

  2. Tomato fruit start out green and gradually turn pink than red. You can pick the tomatoes when they start turning pink and let them finish ripening inside your house. Their taste won’t deteriorate very much. Grocery store tomatoes are picked green and allowed to ripen in their shipping crates.

Tomatoes need fertilizer and regular watering. The soil around them should be moist all the time. Just moist, not soaking wet. If the soil gets too dry and you water it, the fruit may split. This is because the skin on the tomato cannot grow or stretch as fast as it absorbs water.

If you live in the south where it is very hot, you might try fertilizer a little heavy on nitrogen to increase the foliage growth to shade the fruit.
