not sure if over watering the plant a little is bad while there is no fruit, but once there is fruit, you need to keep the soil consitantly moist (but not too moist that it’ll rot) water often but not too much otherwise you’ll split the tomato. and don’t let it dry out too much either.

  2. Howdy Naomi,

Coach Dave here…I’m a plant expert for The Home Depot and Tomatoes are my middle name.

When watering tomatoes there are some simple rules.

    1) Most tomatoes use about a 1/2 gallon ever other day.
    2) Only water during daylight hours..morning is best.
    3) Fish emulsion is the best fertilizer I know of and I bury it so I don’t have to smell rotten fish.

Depending on your location and tomato type you might consider cutting them down unless they are cherry tomatoes which usually are indeterminate.

In regards to something better?….well I suppose a radish would be the fastest and easiest to grow.

    Coach Dave

  3. Piss all over them. Have others help. Water with roughly three gallons of urine per day.

  4. Tomatoes do well with lots of composted manure, compost, and calcium rich soil. They should be soaked at least once a week.
