Question by horsecrazy: How to grow tomatoes in pots?
I am growing tomatoes in pots. Is there any way to keep the bugs off of them without having to use chemicals? If not what is the best and least expensive bug spray to use? Is there a right way to grow tomatoes in pots?
I have little white bugs mostly that appear and the stuff i’m using is not working.

hot pepper in water to spray the leaves or sevin dust from walmart. Make sure there are drainage holes in the bottom , lots of root room to grow, fertilize and water. And lots of sun.

Before I turn 30 I had the goal of growing my own tomatoes. Apparently, I’m on my way… I have actually grown tomatoes. Now I need them to ripen and I will have been a success!

  1. You shouldn’t be bothered by to many bugs. I use Ivory dish soap diluted to about 1 Tbl. per gallon of water. They love lots of sunlight and very warm to hot temperatures. If growing inside be careful not to over water. Watch for small black spots on the leaves which would indicate a fungus. You will need to spray an antifungal if they appear

  2. You have already received the answers to the first two questions. However, there is a “right way” to grow container tomatoes. It is very important, as the other respondent stated, that there is plenty of room for root growth. Also, make sure that there is good drainage so the soil does not become water-logged. Always use at least a 5-gallon container.
