Question by accountingmajor: Favorite way to make a grilled cheese sandwich?
What is your favorite way to eat a grilled cheese, and what do you like to add as a side dish?

My fave is a very nutty wheat bread with swiss cheese, grilled with mayo on the outside instead of butter.

I like to add tomato soup as a side dish to dip the sandwich in.
You guys are making me hungry!

Try grilled swiss cheese (the real kind with the nutty flavor) and ham on rye bread. Can’t be beat. For a normal one I like to put in raw onion slices.

I like my grilled cheese with a lot of veggies and I try to use different types of cheese as well.
This one in the link below uses Asiago and pimento peppers.

  6. I prefer just the plain old grilled white bread with American cheese.

Just a funny thing: Back when I was living in the dorm in college, I made grilled cheeses with an iron (on a plate) because I didn’t have anything to cook on, lol.

  7. i like to cook mine in a thick kaiser roll i’ve cut in half and just put american cheese on it and cook until getting dark because i like the crisp soft yet crunchy taste.

  8. I like it with the 3 cheese blend (Asiago, Parm & Fontina) from Whole Foods on whole grain bread and toasted with mayo on the outside like poster said.

  9. butter both white bread then grilled golden brown with sharp cheddar cheese and mayo on the side to dip with a nice cold glass of chocolate milk! d=

  10. 3 chorizo sausages (6 ounces), thinly sliced on the diagonal
    2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
8 slices of sourdough bread, cut from a pullman loaf
6 ounces Pepper Jack cheese, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons drained and sliced pickled jalapeños
6 ounces Havarti cheese, thinly sliced
    directions
In a large skillet, cook the sliced chorizo over moderately high heat, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned, about 3 minutes. Drain the chorizo on paper towels and wipe out the skillet.
Butter the bread on 1 side and turn 4 slices buttered side down on a work surface. Top with Pepper Jack, chorizo, pickled jalapeños and Havarti. Close the sandwiches with the remaining bread slices, turning the buttered side up.
Preheat 2 large skillets. Add the sandwiches and cook over moderate heat, turning once, until the bread is golden and crisp, about 8 minutes. Cut the sandwiches in half and serve.

  11. I like brie cheese together with butter, white bread, 1 cup of roasted red peppers, dijon mustard, and sliced smoked ham. Tomato soup is the best side with Goldfish Crackers in it. It’s kind of a grown-up sandwich with kid side. It’s good if you have King’s Hawaii Sweet Bread.

  12. I use American cheese and add ham or bacon. Me and the kids love it. I also make them using American cheese and sugar for a late night sweet treat. They’re yummy.

  13. Sourdough bread. Spread edge to edge on the outside with real mayonnaise. Fill with a good cheddar cheese like Cabot extra sharp or Tillamook Sharp white cheddar. Grill on medium heat in a pan on the stovetop.

Serve with Tomato soup with added spices like black and cayenne pepper, garlic and onion powder, marjoram, your favorite hot sauce (Mine is Melinda’s) and parmesan cheese.

  14. I only can say “Toast Hawaii”. I have never seen one without cheese.
