Question by Silly ol Me: Italian Recipe Help Please…..?
I am cooking this recipe today and I don’t have the italian tomatoes. What would you recommend I do??

If you recommend spices, what do you consider italian spices?

INGREDIENTS
1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
1 (16 ounce) jar marinara sauce
1 (4.5 ounce) can sliced mushrooms
1 (14.5 ounce) can Italian-style diced tomatoes, undrained
1 (9 ounce) package refrigerated or fresh cheese tortellini
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
DIRECTIONS
Crumble the ground beef and Italian sausage into a large skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until browned. Drain.
Combine the ground meats, marinara sauce, mushrooms, and tomatoes in a slow cooker. Cover, and cook on LOW heat for 7 to 8 hours.
Stir in the tortellini, and sprinkle the mozzarella and cheddar cheese over the top. Cover and cook for 15 more minutes on LOW, or until the tortellini is tender.

  1. I would use a can of regular canned tomatoes, just add some fresh or dried garlic, some oregano (1 tsp.) and some basil.

  2. basil, oregano and garlic

  3. Just use any kind of diced tomatoes then add a little oregano, onion salt and garlic powder to the tomatoes .
Next time check the ingredients of the italian style .
The only difference is they add spices and use plum tomatoes .

  4. You can add kitchen ready tomatoes (Pastene ) makes them.
Fresh plum tomatoes. Add your seasonings………garlic, fresh basil, salt, pepper. When I don’t have plum tomatoes any well ripen tomato will do. Just begin by adding the tomatoes To olive oil and saute garlic.

  5. italian tomatoes are usually called roma tomatoes in the produce section in the store. just use canned diced tomatoes instead just drain the excess juice out of the can bfore you add to your recipe. italian tomatoes are firmer where regular tamatoes are juicyer thats why you should drain off some of the liquid in the can your recipe sounds great bon appetit

  6. since you are already using italian sausages, you should be concentrating on the sauce. try basil, thyme and tarragon.
you could also try tossing in dried tomatoes.
