Question by mangopuppy: How do you grow 2 tomato plants in 1 Topsy Turvy?
1. Do you put both plants in the hole at the bottom?

2. Or can you put one tomato plant in the bottom hole and one coming out from the side ports (the side ports are available in the “Topsy Turvy Tomato and Herb” planter)?

3. Do you have to fill the entire bag with soil?

You shouldn’t. Not enough soil to support two plants. Not really enough for one of the larger indeterminate type. But if you really want to put both plants in the same hole. Grow compact determinate types and feed often.

  1. Cheers, great vid. I use Coir/Perlite in seed cells, great water retention and open structure….and cheap :)

  2. This guy cracks me up. His joke about suckers …

  3. Transplanting into the AP setup should work fine. I’ve only done tomatoes. But there are lots of other plants that will root from cuttings. Peppers are very difficult to root. I’ve heard of it being done, but never seen anyone do it successfully.

  4. thanks! very informative…..

  5. I am learning a lot from your videos! Thanks for taking the time.

  6. Are the same results possible from other plants also?….cherry tomatoes, Bell pepper, etc etc…..also I’m having good results from my ibc aquaponics, would I be able to transplant those into my system and still have good results? Or would it be too much of a shock?

  7. Thanks for showing this technique! I was always wondering why my suckers kept dyeing.

  8. Thank you sir.

  9. Ouch. That’s a bad deal. :(

  10. Well Done, Thanks for the info.

  11. Early in the year i transplanted my seedings into bigger holders and was going to let the recuperate but my dad would listen and keep sticking them in the sun and it killed them :(.

  12. i tried it man to be honest it didnt work to well organic too, bu it turned my tomatoe suckers dark purple and dark green no rooting hormone but it looked weird, no growth in height but roots were groin like crazy, no new growth for almost 2 months, id like to know if anybody else has better results tho,,

  13. Somebody told me you could use honey for rooting hormone, IDK gonna try that this year we’ll see how that works.

  17. I’ve been told that you could. But I haven’t tried it to find out first hand.

  18. Do you know if you can do the same with determinant tomatoes or do they die off early like the mother would Bobby??
    Thanks Sir :)

  20. Haha… kinda like the Duggers !

  21. should have had lots of kids free workers lol good luck this year

  22. I’ve never done it, but I know others who have. Yes, it works.

  23. Sounds like your drip lines might be getting clogged. If so, a filter bag for the pump would be a good idea.

  24. Hi Bobby!! I have a question…can I clone suckers from a bush determinate tomato? will it produce a clone that will produce like one grown from seed?

  25. I’ve seen someone do it regularly. They do it everytime they buy a pepper plant from a nursery. They turn each one into like 4 plants. I think he uses only water and puts them directly into potting soil. I haven’t asked exactly how he does it though. He is Turkish so maybe he knows some other technique.
