Question by Reece: When I start my plants can I add coffee grinds to the soil?
I will be growing tomatoes, peppers, and herbs and more. I read that coffee grinds are great to add. I will be starting my plants indoors in newspaper planters. Can I mix some used coffee grinds into the soil when they start? Thanks!

Wait till you plant them outside then put the grounds into the soil around the plants. I use fish emulsion when they are small. Don’t fertilize till they get their true leaves. Also I would recommend the minted smelling fish emulsion.

this summer i had no tomatoes. all my flowers wilted… My local nursery sales lady said this was a common problem because of the heat we had (2011). Are there any varieties that will perform better in high heat? or are there any strategies for heat related issues that i can try for 2012? 2010, i had lots of cherry tomatoes planted near the same location, but closer to my homes brick wall. this year i used a raised bed with dino dirt frm denton.
