  1. A tomato is a fruit because it grows on a vine and has seeds. Its just not sweet like other fruit.

  2. It’s a fruit just like cucumbers, squash, bell peppers. If it has seeds, it’s classified as a fruit in a botanical way but they are used as vegetables in the culinary world.

  3. Tomatoes are fruit but treat it like a vegetable.

  4. A fruit!

Botanically, a tomato is the ovary, together with its seeds, of a flowering plant: therefore it is a fruit. However, the tomato is not as sweet as those foodstuffs usually called fruits and, from a culinary standpoint, it is typically served as part of a salad or main course of a meal, as are vegetables, rather than at dessert in the case of most fruits. This is what confuses people.

  5. It is a fruit. They were also called a “love apple”.

  9. A tomato is a fruit. Fruits, like tomatoes, begin developing from the ovary in the base of the flower, and they contain seeds (cultivated forms might be seedless). In cooking, tomatoes are seen as vegetables because they are not used in sweet dishes.

    Hope that helps :)
