Question by Shorty: How long is food good for if…….?
If you purchase food from the deli section at a super-market (ie coles or woolworths BTW – I’m from Australia)

Like all your sliced meats, or semi-dried tomatoes, cheeses, or bacon etc?? How long are the safe to keep in the fridge until they start to go bad??

It depends on the item. There should be a “best by” date on all deli products. If it’s something that was canned, usually for a couple of weeks if properly stored in the fridge. If it smells or looks funny, throw it out regardless of dates.

  1. It does depend on the item. The tomatoes are fine unless they grow mold. The meats and cheeses should have a sell by date but if they don’t, meats start to turn greenish grey, they stink and get a slimy film. Throw them away before that. Cheese will also grow mold or dry up when it has gone bad.
