I want to grow onions, tomatos, and some other things. Which ones are easiest? I’m a first-time gardener.

In the south, we plant peppers, tomatoes, greens, squash, corn, etc. Peppers are the easiest to me. Check out the website listed below. It’s great for beginners, etc. It has information on which zone you’re in, suggested plants, watering, etc. It can answer alot of your questions.

@FLYESTBIRD I grow both, but I haven’t tried growing bell peppers with the
tomato. I usually keep the bell and the cayenne apart due to the fact that
they can cross pollinate. I use the seeds from my fruits for the next
season, so I like to avoid. Try it out with a group of tomatoes and let me
know how it goes!
You can cover the fruit with small plastic bags with a hole in it to let
condensated water drain out. Or you can get a cat and a bb gun. I suggest
you go the more humane route.

beans are easy to grow anywhere
If have good soil, with topsoil,garden soil for veggies and some peat to keep soil loose, easiest to grow are tomatoes from plants and bean seeds. corn is not worth it as so cheap to buy in summer, same with lettuce. Just keep watered and area around plants weeded. GOOD LUCK!!
tomatos are not a vegetable. in the mid 1950’s they were reclassified as fruit since they have citric acid.
alot of people also think pumpkins are a fruit. they are a type of squash which is a vegetable.
For a child’s garden, radishes are always a good choice since the seeds sprout and plants mature rapidly. For any novice gardener quick results are encouraging. Leaf lettuce and spinach seeds are good choices and a few plants can be left to go to seed for future harvests. I suggest buying a couple of tomato plants in varieties best adapted for your area. You will have to stake, pinch, and watch out for tomato worms but your efforts will be rewarded. I don’t recommend planting corn.
Try the tomatoes, pick them up when they are little plants at the nursery, plant them, & water, water, WATER!!! They like fertilizer too. Just water them every day & pick them before they crack & you’ll get tons of lucous sweet tomatoes all summer, & fall too! A favorite of mine is supersweet 100. Cut off the blooms during the fall to increce ripening too.

I recommend radishes for the first-time gardener. They are fast and fool proof. They will give you the confidence to tackle other veggies. Good luck——-
If you want to plant corn go for it. I love to watch it grow. Corn needs a starter fertilizer. Use some commercial fertilizer. I prefer dry. Mix it into your soil prior to planting. Take a couple of wooden stakes or anything you have and place on on each end of your intended row. Tie a string to each stake making a guideline for your row. Use a hoe or stick and make a trench. take your garden water hose and fill the trench with water. Allow the water to soak in. Place your corn seed 4 to 5 inches apart then cover with soil. Corn needs a lot of water especially as it gets warmer. There are a lot of different varieties. I encourage you to plant heirloom varieties especially the colored varieties, red, blue, purple. The best eating is white or yellow sweetcorn. To prevent ear-worms place a drop of corn oil on the corn silks as they first appear. The oil will trap the moth eggs a suffocate them preventing the worm larvae from entering the ear. If you plant now wait until the 27th or 28th as these are the best planting days for corn in March. You will be enjoying roasting ears in June. Good luck!
Green beans produce like crazy. I like “contender”. Being your first year, do a few tomato plants too. Keep it small, keep it simple, this way you wont be overwhelmed the first year. I have seen alot of ppl give up because of this mistake.
