Question by kmetres: Save tomato plant for next year?
I got a seedling Mexican cherry tomato plant early last summer. I took care of it all summer and fall (mostly indoors next to a sunny window), and finally in November it sprouted some tiny delicious tomatoes. Question: Should I keep it for next year, or is it done? If I should keep it, should I cut it back and put it in the closet? Thanks!

  1. Nice work, we liked your video very much so we embedded it on ChefCommons .

  2. If it is an indeterminate plant, you can keep it and it will continue to flower and produce fruit.
If it is a determinate plant, you can’t do that because they only give one crop of fruit and then they are finished. Try to find out which it is. The seed pack always states which it is.
If you don’t have the seed pack, try looking up the specific variety that it is online.

  3. Good luck to you. More info about that here grow-herbs-veggies-smallspaces.com

  4. Tomatoes are annuals – last 1 season, frost kills them. You may be able to overwinter it indoors, but definitely save some seeds to start in the spring. If you lose the plant here is a source for more seeds: http://www.justtomatoes.com/jtstore/pc/home.asp
