Question by Michaela.: Do things like tomato paste and tomato concentrate have red dye in them?
I have this weird sensitivity to artificial colors, specifically red dyes. I recently ate a burger with ketchup and salsa, and I’m having pretty much the same reaction I would have if I had eaten anything with red in it. I’ve looked at the labels and they just say “tomato concentrate from red ripe tomatoes” and “tomato paste”, but no dyes are listed.
So, is it possible that these things have red dye in them?

If dyes or coloring was listed, it would ahve to say “Red Dye #3” or something like that

  1. 99.9% of tomato products have no dye in them. And if they’re made in the US, they’re required to list any dyes that might be present. So I doubt your reaction is from either of those.

Check the package of buns–sometimes they augment the appearance of bread with yellow dyes.
