Question by Sassy Shut Your Mouth: What is the proper way to cut tomatoes to prevent salad from getting too wet?
Sometimes my sliced tomatoes weigh my salad down and makes it too soggy, how can I prevent that from happening?

If my tomatoe is really wet, I will cut it in half, and kinda gently squeeze some of the liquid/seeds out, then cut it up. Also, don’t put it in your salad until you are ready to serve it. Use a serated knife to cut your tomatoes.

  7. I can relate to your problem after 50 years of growing and using tomatoes for various applications. These suggestions may help you:

    I generally remove the skin from the tomatoes before use by dipping in boiling water for about 30 seconds and then put them in cold water until they cool then remove the skin.

    Cut them in half and remove all seeds and liquid with your fingers. Lay them on a paper towel to further drain.

    Never store your tomatoes in a temperature below 50 degrees.

    Never try to ripen tomatoes on the window sill in the sun. Put them in a brown paper bag if they need additional ripening, especially if purchased in the fall or winter months.

    Roma or pear tomatoes generally have less liquid compared to other varieties but are less sweet, especially in the winter months.

    As others have suggested add your tomatoes and dressings when your ready to serve.
