Question by pol_224: Why are the top leaves of my tomato plants wilted later in the day.?
When I check my garden in the evening, I notice that the top leaves and sections of my tomato plants are wilted. The rest of the plant looks fine. What causes this?

they are probably dry at that time

They are thirsty. Water them thoroughly, and they will perk up fast.
You may be under-watering, especially if they are potted or are in 100% sun.
If the plants “come back” after watering it’s probably just exhausted from the day’s heat and dehydrated. Many tropical plants do this in our summers. As long as the plants refresh themselves after a good watering, don’t fret. I would try to find it some late afternoon shade, though.
With the hot, humid weather we’ve been having here in the Northeast, I have the same thing. I first check to see if they need a drink by sticking my finger in the dirt a couple of inches. If it’s dry, I water if we’re not going to get rain.
If they are not dry, just wait till the sun is off them a couple of hours or even the next morning. They’ll be standing upright again. The tops get the most sun/heat and therefore, they wilt the fastest but come back quickly.
They need more water. Tomatoes are thirty plants.
