Question by stevieray: I need some tips for growing tomatoes?
I live in Arkansas and have tried growing tomatoes before. Everyone seems to be able to produce tons of big juicy tomatoes. My vines will produce small to med size for a short while and then they just quit putting out tomatoes. How do I get Large juicy tomatoes? I need growers tips and secrets pleaseeee!!! Also is it possible that the weather can get too hot for tomatoes? This year I have 3 plants. All of them are Better Boys. Thanks to all who offer help to my poor brown thumbs.

Grow them in old tires. The tires help with the moisture and temp. Use miracle grow soil. Water and fertilize.

Yesterday, Mr. Stripey finally fell over – we had to jury rig a sling from a stick and a leg of pantyhose. This tomato was a bit bruised on the bottom, but otherwise ok.

grow them inside at first then when theyre ready put them outside and make sure to plant marigolds to keep the grubs away. Fresh soil is a must and something my dad would do is put coffee grounds in the soil. And earthworms help keep the soil fresh too.
Tomatoes need lots of watering. You are just a jump across the river from me, so the heat won’t bother them as long as they get watered every day (only water early morning or late afternoon, or you’ll burn the plants up). I would try some miracle grow or 10-10-10 around the base of the ground once the plants have established in the garden. Not too much 10-10-10, and not directly on the plant. Miracle grow works wonders.
Are the tomatoes having a pest or fungal problem? Do they rot while still on the vine? If they do, it could be blossom end rot.
Is the ground hard and packed? That could hinder the growth also.

Tomatoes need damp, fertilize soil an not too hot weather. Refer here.
Here in Australia it is suggest that good compost dug in well with good blood and bone a couple of weeks before planting.
Best to start off from seed direct or use transplanted ones grown from seed or grafted.
If it is hot as you say maybe shade cloth when it is hot and some misty water helps to prevent burning of leaves.
Some of the suggestions are that filter-tip cigarettes buts make good water absorbers and the chemicals in the tobacco keeps insects at bay.
Another is coffee grounds do wonders as well. Maybe helps to keep the tomatoes awake.

Try planting them really deep. My husband clips off the last leaves at the bottom of the plant and plants them up to there. He has the most incredible tomatoes. He also swears by Miracle Grow and Jobe’s Spikes for tomatoes. They are both so easy to do and are worth the money spent on them! Good Luck!
