Question by Jessica C: How many tomatoes grow per plant? And can I sell them straight to a store? How much do they sell for?
I have 24 ordinary, red tomato plants. How many tomatoes will I get per plant? And also, can I sell them straight to a store? And for how much? Thanks!

You cannot sell directly to a store unless you have passed FDCA (or whatever the governing agency is over food…I’m drawing a blank right now haha) inspections and the like.

The best thing for you to do is to sell them at a Farmer’s Market (and most likely, you’ll make more selling them that way, anyway).

As for how many per plant…a LOT of that will be in the care given.

I have had tomato plants give me 20 per plant, some more, some less…but you have to be VERY dedicated to watching them for signs of bugs, blossom end rot, etc…to ensure a full harvest.

  1. tomato plants produce several tomatoes. You can sell to some grocery stores. But i rather can them or give to friends that don’t have any.

  2. You can sell them to a farmers market or to a “Mom and Pop” type business like a local diner. And don’t forget that if you have any left over you can donate them to your local food pantry or homeless shelter.

  3. it depends if the tomatos have enough space to sprea their roots, i had mine in a small pot amd i had 2, on the other hand my friend grew hers in the ground and had 21 (and we both had the same type of tomato)!!! and i dont think u can sell them stright to a store

  4. Nobody can predict how many tomatoes you will get from your plants. I have no idea if you can sell them to a store..you would need to ask the store. Most stores are not going to buy from a stranger that has a home garden. You can always get a table at a local farmers market and sell them..I am not sure if you would need a permit or license though.
