Question by Who am I?: would your child eat a salad with grilled chicken for dinner?
If you made a chopped salad with all kinds of toppings (olives, cheese, tomatoes, chick peas, cukes, etc) and grilled chicken, would your children eat that as their meal? Would your husband? And lastly how regularly do you make a salad like this as a meal?

my family has a salads like that maybe 3 times a week? i ate them fine. just make sure toppings are appropriate and liked. for examples many children don’t like olives. so maybe make a big bowl with the basics and add extras to yours and husbands maybe?

  1. Mine would not so I incorporate it other ways. We often have side salads with dinner and also we have things like tacos to get fresh veggies eaten.

  2. Everything but the olives. We love salads

  3. My family will and does enjoy that as a meal, unfortunately I don’t make it half as often as i should. Maybe once a month or so.

  4. Yes, they would. We make them two or more times a week during the warmer months and probably only three, maybe four times a month during the colder months.

  5. My oldest would, my youngest no. As a matter of fact, my oldest took a salad in her lunch for school today, minus the chicken. She’s in grade 1.

We eat salad all the time, though as a side not as a meal (my husband is a meat and potatoes kind of guy). But the girls have only started to eat salads in the last year or so, when they were about 3 and 5. Big girl will eat pretty much any kind of salad, but baby girl is more fussy. Caesar salad is her favourite, but she will eat a regular salad with just lettuce shredded carrots, cukes and tomatoes. She doesn’t like much else on salad except maybe nuts. She absolutely LOVES cole slaw or other cabbage based salad. Big girl hates cabbage. That’s how it goes with kids!

  6. My 2 1/2 year old son will not eat a salad unless he sees my brother in law eating it. Then he will devour it. He’ll also eat any other food that my bro in law eats that he himself would normally turn up his nose at. It’s wierd/cute at the same time.

  7. My husband does not eat most vegetables, and none of my children eat salad. They all, however, do eat fruits and vegetables- just not in salad form and they each have their own likes and dislikes. Most of mine just do not do well with “mixed” food.

I eat salad regularly, but even I have my personal preferences and do not eat it with olivs and chickpeas. I use a mixture of lettuce and spinach leaves, love cucumbers and tomato, and various other toppings.

  8. Yes, they would. That depends on the time of the year. When it is hot, more often than when it is cold out.

  9. We do “dinner salads” about 2-3 times a week. My son loves them and it’s really opened his pallet to other foods. My ex would never have gone for it though.

  10. Yes, my husband and my kids will eat it. I mostly make salads like that during summer, once a week. I change the toppings, dressings, and the chickens seasonings. My favorite is a southwestern style chicken salad with homemade fajita seasoning on the chicken, black beans, and corn.

  11. Yes, they would. We regularly have green salad as a side at dinner several times a week, but I also sometimes make it as a meal. Maybe once a month. My kids love salad (5 and 7). DH, too.

  12. Yes. We do salads often. Though usually as side dishes. I don’t normally put meat in my salads, just veggies or even simply a green salad with oil and vinegar as dressing. When I make chicken caesar salad though, the kids love it. Husband too.

  13. My daughter loves chicken so she would eat that. She isn’t a fan if salad but I don’t really push her to eat it since she’ll eat pretty much any veggies. So she would eat grilled chicken with say, steamed broccoli.

  14. If he sees his dad eat it, then he definietly will too. Lol. I’m not sure if he’d stand for olives or tomatoes, though.

  15. If I made it they would eat it or go hungry.

  16. Yes, everyone in my house would eat that because they know that I wouldn’t be serving anything else, so if they didn’t, they’d be hungry.

We only do a salad like that about once every few months. Because even though they eat it, it’s still not very well received (by the kids–the hubs and I love it!).

  17. They would eat every topping you listed, but just not the lettuce. I, for some reason, have never really liked lettuce, and they take after me. But they’d eat the chicken and every topping you listed, so I’d say they’re pretty adventurous.

    :)
