Question by Kbzee: Does anyone know if you can make spaghetti sauce from canned tomato sauce?
I just realized that I don’t have any spaghetti sauce, and I don’t have a way to the store right now, is there any way to make a sauce from the cans of tomato sauce that I have? Any recipes would help.
Thanks for all the answers so far, you’re awesome! I have onions, garlic, dried basil, oregano, and red pepper flakes, along with a cabinet full of different spices. I’ll definitely try it out.

  1. I usually add 4oz of tomato paste to 12-16 oz of tomato sauce. Grill some onions, garlic & mushrooms, add a pinch of cinnamon (seriously!) And yum!

  2. What do you think spaghetti sauce is? Of course ya can.

  3. absolutely. Saute some minced onion and garlic with some chili flakes. When the onions are soft, add oregano, basil, pinch of rosemary a splash or red wine if you have it and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer about 15 minutes on low and taste, sometimes you’ll need a little sugar, but don’t add it unless you need to.

  4. Sauté some onion an garlic in olive oil then add the tomato sauce. Add some oregano, basal salt and pepper and you have spaghetti sauce.

  5. Well I Think Personally you should not get those can open tomato sauces because
some are horrible and they lead to diarrihea But…A Sauce you could use is those traditional sauces from the supermarket so i suggest to not get those canned tomato sauces

  6. YES! SAUCE OR PASTE WILL DO. ADD SOME SALT, GARLIC POWDER AND ONION POWDER OR THE FLAVORS YOU LIKE.

  7. Ingredients:

    1 tbsp. olive oil
2 tsp. minced or chopped garlic
    1 (28-oz.) can whole tomatoes
    salt and pepper
about 1/4 c. fresh basil, chopped

    Directions:

Heat the oil in a saucepan and sauté the garlic for 30 seconds.

Open the can of tomatoes and add it to the pan.

Bring the liquid to a fast simmer and cook for about 5 minutes.

Blend or chop the tomatoes. You can use a hand blender to coarsely puree the tomatoes or use a large spoon to mash them up right in the pot, or transfer the mixture to a blender or food processor.

Season to taste with salt and pepperand continue mashing or pureeing until sauce is coarse but smooth.

    Add the basil and serve.

  8. Yes it will make an okay sauce. Pretty much anything canned you add into the sauce will make it better. Canned beans, mushrooms, ext will make it better. I’d also advise adding some onion and some spices. Garlic powder is my favorite to add.

If you can’t make it to a store then it’s hard to tell you what to add.

You can’t go very wrong here, feel free to experiment! You might find it fun.

  9. Spaghetti sauce is pretty much seasoned tomato sauce.

Ilike to use canned stewed toms for a chunkier sauce but it is up to you.

  10. try it out with a lil bit and see!

  12. Of course you can…you just need to add seasonings. I usually saute garlic and onion and add that along with italian seasoning. Just simmer until done. Afterall..the base of spaghetti sauce is tomato sauce.
