I like empty gallon milk jugs but really anything will work. Make sure to remove them in the mid morning before the sun cooks them.

  1. no haven’t tried it yet you gave me the idea to do that. I made me some compost tea yesterday and its brewing now and will strain it put it in my sprayer and give my plants and seedlings a good doucing. I wish I had some fish emulsion to go in this batch, but I can always make more and from the info I am seeing on youtube from other gardeners I need to do this every week for optimum health and growth of my plants. So I need to remember to pick me up some next time I’m in town.

  2. have you tried that? how does it work wonder what the npk would be on that if you mixed them two together Thanks for the idea

  3. so adding that fish emulsion to some compost tea would be great, and using it as a foliar spray. hey thnx for sharing those plants look great

  4. Thats when you do tomatoes in the last comment, do peppers about 2 weeks before your tomatoes peppers seeds take longer to germinate.

  5. Peppers then what week or so later do tomatoes ? And when’s the next video coming out !! Lol

  6. If your growing under a light start them about 4-6 weeks before last frost,so if your last frost is may 9 then I would start my seedlings second week of april.

  7. oh yea of course I dont give them away untill there ready to plant in the ground

  8. Ya my last frost is may 9th they say I wonder when I should start them next year

  9. you are right now that I think about it I might start mine later next year march 1 or feb 28 thanks for the insight

  10. when you give these away to people, is it easy for them to take care of? even if they are complete beginners?

  11. Ya see that’s the thing I never read anywhere that when using a light u don’t need 8 weeks before lol I got them in 9 oz cups

  12. could be you still have a month or so before planting them outside. You might be harvesting inside first lol

  13. I wonder if its because I use 16 hrs an u do 14 maybe that 2 hrs made it start growing flowers I donno some have like 3 4 pods on it now

  14. That’s the way I do it too!

  15. Ya ok I hope they ok I don’t plant till at like 2rd or 3rd week of may

  24. Thanks and congrats on moving to fl the warmer weather there will be awesome.yes my first year I planted lemon boy and I only got about 4 tomatoes but they were good, never grown jubilee Ill have to try them. I am actually planting beans with my corn this year and hadnt thought about 3 sisters yet I might just give that a try Thanks for the suggestion

  25. Cover right now. You can use light weight towels, sheets, plastic or anything that will shield them from the cold. I don’t know where you live but if you are in anything from parts of zone 6 and 5 and up what are you doing with tomato plants outside?

  26. There is no worry unless there is expected a frost which freezes the plant causing the water inside to expand and kill the plant. what the cover is suppose to do is keep the wind from freezing the plant and keep the ground warmth around the plant. At this time of year with small plants I cut the bottom out of milk jugs and place over them acting as a sort of green house where the sun still gets in and the wind is blocked off . Leave the caps off you don’t want to cook then ether. If it is to late to be saving milk jugs I would use any thing and make a v shaped cover over them.(plastic sheeting or even a sheet). Hope this helps

  27. We put containers over ours this week just in case.

  28. no worry unless there is a frost warning…

  29. The problem with planting tomatoes early is that if nights are too cold the plants will refuse to set fruit. Too cold nights are the main cause of tomato blossoms dropping off before they are fertilized.

So even if the temperatures remain above freezing, it isn’t a bad idea to shelter your tomato plants from the cold. Some methods of protection include 1-gallon milk jugs with bottoms removed which are set over plants. Inverted plastic buckets, Season starters (wall o’ waters) which hold 3 gallons of water and warm during the day, Plastic sheeting draped over frames of flexible PVC hoops, wire wickets, or wood frames. HotKaps, or brown paper bags can also be used as covers.

    Good luck!
