  1. Thank you so much, realberserker. We don’t live in a hot climate (Maine)
but I think I’d rather be safe than sorry and use the shredded newspaper as
well. I’ve read the most common issue with the planter is they dry out
quickly. I’ll still water it daily in addition to the newspaper. Thanks
    again!! :-)

  2. Isn’t it cheaper to get a bucket, punch a hole at the botton, put a small
piece of foam and have the same results for 1/10 of the price?

  3. Depends on the variety, but most start producing tomatoes after 50-70 days.

  4. it didn’t work at all for me. bad design. It’s always wet and that means
    rot.

  5. Sorry about the audio – our wireless mike was pretty lousy and we got a new
    one recently.

  6. My guess is that you would have to germinate the seed in a pot first, then
transplant it…which can be very traumatic for plants. You’re better off
    just buying one, IMHO

  7. Sweetpeahiker> it takes about 6 gallons (1414 cubic inches). You don’t have
to fill it all the way though – I’ve had some luck filling it with about 5
gallons of soil and putting a gallon of shredded leaves or newspaper on
top. That helps hold extra moisture if you’re in a really hot climate (like
    here in Texas)

  8. What kind of soil are you filling it with? Soils that drain well (like coir
mixed with finished compost) are the best for this and potted plants in
    general.

  9. You probably have better luck than growing a damn tomato….lol!

  10. @naughtyglamz I am getting awesome results after only 3 weeks. You should
be fertilizing it once a week. Use Miracle Grow tomato fertilizer. As the
plants get closer to flowering, fertilize it every 2-3 days.

  11. I am thinking of doing a biology project on this! how long does a tomato
    plant take to grow?

  12. hey gardeners.. I am a new vegetable grower myself .. i have a great little
tip for u guys . my tomatoe plants got long really fast….. theyl get so
long theyll touch the ground if there not realy high up… and i had a
tomatoe plant in the side and it flopped over from the weight… so i
gently tied them to that chains on the top… all topsy tuirvys have the
same 3 chain design.. u can just gently make a loop around the thickest
stalk of the plant. and tie it up..keep it a loose knot

  13. Sorry, the microphone was a POS. I got a new one shortly after filming this.

  14. trim lower branches and place the sponge high on the plant. the
instructions that come with this kit even say for you to do so, so that you
can get the max amount of roots. this person does not know what he is
    talking about..

  15. Yes. We produced tomatoes with this well into October last year. It also
works with other plants like bell peppers, cucumbers, strawberries, and
    other vines.

  16. Pretty bad sound here buddy. Is it possible to plant from seed? (Ireland)

  17. I DIDN’T PUT THE SPONGE AT THE BOTTOM AND MY PLANT DON’T SEEM TO BE DOING
WELL .. EVERYDAY IT TOUCH THE BOTTOM AND ITS SOAKING WET… IS THAT BECAUSE
    THE SPONGE IS NOT THERE?

  18. “You want to find a 2×4 that’s at least a quarter-inch thick.” If it’s a
    quarter-inch thick, it’s not a 2×4 is it!?!

  19. Hey (in a hurry) you didint mention where you were< If your are in Usa and dont live in tropical-subtropical it may be getting to late to plant. From a seedling you nead at least 3 months! Here in Southern Australia it is just time to plant now.

  20. I’d recommend using a blend of compost from different sources
(horse/cow/lawn clippings) for a good balance of nutrients. We’ve had the
best results using organic fertilizers instead of chemically treated soil.
Sorry about the audio – we’re going to reshoot this video soon now that we
    have a better microphone.

  21. The only time he may have had the thing full of soil is when it was
hanging. If you fill it full with soil while trying to hold it, its going
to get heavy fast. Put your hanger up first, put the plant in, hang it and
then fill with soil. This will make your life much easyer and keep you from
    crushing your plant.

  22. Bobe, you must realize that something is wrong with your plant. Be observer
not just a follower of any instruction. 😀 Anyway, cheer up, try it again!

  23. @CLaneWilson Thank you, we actually bought some miricle grow plant food for
it about a few weeks ago… and its gotten major progess now they are
growing and getting so big and much healther! I can’t wait for it to get
    bigger and bigger :-)

  24. I have one, and it works wonderfully! My daughter waters it, but I don’t
have to worry about her over-watering it, because you can’t! It’s amazing!
The tomatoes are getting HUGE and delicious, I highly recommend it to
    everyone.
