Say I take a potato soup recipe, and just throw in chopped/pureed tomatoes and bell peppers. It won’t taste like crap will it?

I wouldn’t add the tomatoes in. But the bell peppers would be good if you dice and saute them first.

It will taste just fine. You might need to add a bit more salt for the tomatoes.
IDK – I think I would pass on both. I really like potato soup and think the tomatoes and peppers would mess it up. I do use potato soup as a base for oyster or oyster/shrimp chowder. Major YUMM!
