Question by cgself: Do you serve mozzarella balls that are marinated in olive oil and vegetable oil cold or do you prepare them?
I bought a 3 pound bucket of fresh mozzarella balls with fresh basil and sun dried tomatoes. They are in quite a bit of olive and vegetable oils. I had planned on serving them with pasta but there are no serving directions and I don’t know how to get them warm without melting the cheese. I called the manufacturer and they said to serve them at room temp but that seems awfully oily.

  1. I would serve those room temperature too as part of an antipasti or something. That is meant to be served in olive oil–the oil keeps it all moist and can be used as a dipping sauce for bread.

  2. When we have them, I serve them as a side dish instead of salad. I take them out of the fridge for about an hour before we eat just to let them come up to room temperature. Yummy !

  3. What a great buy, I envy you…………for this is one of my favorite cheeses to enjoy and I have also made them myself. Well, not the cheese part lately, but I’ve done marinated Mozzarella Balls before and they are heavenly. You can serve them hot or room temperature, however you’d like. I’ve used them on my antipasto platters, as baguette toppers, or a replacement for other block cheeses, on the platter with crackers and such or how you like to serve them. As for serving them with pasta, no worries. Fresh Mozz. doesn’t melt the same as the processed Mozz. cheese does, so I would highly recommend it in your pasta dish. Just toss them in right at the end or about 3/4 of the way (if it’s a casserole type dish) or when sauteing, at the end. They will quickly warm through while still maintaining their shape and taste absolutely heavenly! I use the oil that they are marinating in for sauteing or as a part of the whole bread and cheese experience, it adds to the softness of it on bread, because while the fresh Mozz. taste is delicious and they are in liquid, they will taste a bit “dry”, the added oil lends itself to the enhanced flavor. The versatility of this GREAT cheese will make you a believer, once you start using it more and experimenting with it. I hope this helps you out today to enjoy this most precious food purchase!
